Dean O'Donnell
Senior Controller
Dean has spent 25 years fixing the finance functions that others couldn't. From cutting a 15-day close to 5 days at a New York investment firm to managing a $400M derivatives book inside a $5B multinational insurer, he brings the technical depth and steady hand that complex, high-stakes situations demand.
About Dean
Dean O'Donnell holds a BBA in Accounting from Iona College and has spent more than 25 years operating at the VP level in some of the most technically demanding finance environments in business: weather and energy derivatives, global payments infrastructure, capital markets, and regulated insurance. At SPRCHRGR, he serves as Senior Controller, putting that depth of experience directly to work for clients who need a finance leader who can operate at the detail and executive level at the same time. His core toolkit spans GAAP and IFRS reporting, derivatives accounting, external audit management, domestic and international tax compliance, and finance systems implementation across PeopleSoft, Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, and Sage Financial. He is the person SPRCHRGR calls when a client's books need to be right, fast, and defensible.
Background
Before joining SPRCHRGR, Dean built his career across roles that few accountants ever get near. At XL Weather & Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of a $5B multinational insurer, he led a 15-person team managing derivatives accounting for a $400M book, including FASB 133 compliance and derivative footnote disclosures for SEC and parent-company reporting. At Con Edison Energy, he oversaw divisional month-end close and presented quarterly performance and variance analysis directly to executive leadership and the Board. Through his firm, MJS International Consulting, he spent years providing interim Controller and VP Finance support to public and private companies, including a year as VP of Finance at Yapstone, a global payments platform, where he led finance operations across multi-entity, multi-state, and international structures and directed both domestic and international external audits. His independent consulting portfolio included clients like Point72, Ironshore Insurance, Aspen Insurance, and Dealogic. Across every engagement, the pattern holds: step into a difficult situation, build structure, and leave the finance function materially stronger.
At SPRCHRGR, Dean brings that same orientation to every client. He is a Controller who has operated as a VP, which means he can execute at the detail level and communicate at the Board level without shifting gears. His record includes compressing a 15-day close to 5 days without adding headcount, leading GAAP-to-IFRS conversions across multiple entities, supporting S-1 and 10-K preparation for IPO-track companies, and building the internal controls infrastructure auditors want to see. For SPRCHRGR clients navigating complexity, rapid growth, or a finance function that needs a reset, Dean is the steady hand that makes it work.
